SIM’s Tag Cosmos

I just added a tag system, including a tag cosmos, to Shadows In Motion.

I’m moving away from the links to Technorati on SIM and will instead be using the plugin Jerome’s Keywords. This has caused two sets of “tags” to be listed at the bottom of posts because I will not be disabling the old plugin, at least not for quite some time. I’ve simply stopped using that method.

Old posts will not have keywords entered via the plugin that I just installed so that plugin thinks that there aren’t any tags associated with those posts. So if there is any confusion about a list of tags followed by a “Tags: none” at the bottom of each post, that’s why it’s happening.

On the up side, Jereome’s Keywords is supposed to integrate with Technorati. So that functionality shouldn’t be lost.

Yay! New CPU Fan / Heatsink Installed

I am soooo glad to be rid of the buzzsaw sound, it was driving me nuts. The thing was so loud that I could hear it grinding / buzzing from two rooms away.

This evening I replaced it with a no frills Masscool fan / heatsink that has grease pre-applied. Excellent. This is especially useful because I have no Artic Silver at the moment.

The most beautiful part of this is that it’s so very, very quiet compared to my buzzsaw block. It’s something of a whisper, and I’d hardly be able to tell that the system was turned on if the side of the case was on. I have so, so much <3 for this quite quiet little thing.

….. this post being cut in half is brought to you by the character < . Unfortunately for you, you don’t get to read my rant about UPS. I’m sure that we’re all disappointed. *hears the massive “awwww” sound from here*

Please Recommend A Good Book

Hey, I know that you read this.  Could you take a moment out to give me your book suggestions?

It has been a long time since I’ve read a book that truly captured me.  That book was Druids by Morgan Llywelyn.  A very good book that I highly recommend.

The most recent book that I read was Lion of Ireland by the same author.  I didn’t particularly enjoy this book, it had way too much talk of loins.  The writing wasn’t bad, exactly, but I’m not really into novels that make sex a primary focus.

In my younger years I read a lot of high fantasy and the like.  DragonLance, Forgotten Realms, Terry Brooks, even a fair bit of Pierrs Anthony.  Incarnations of Immortality were good books.

All of that aside I am open to other genres.  The above are just rough guidelines to go by.  The Discoworld series are books that have been recommended and I’ll look into those, too, but please feel free to leave your book recommnedations here. :)

Thanks! … if anyone bothers. ;->

Mices

I forgot to mention this in the bedtime post last night where I intended to bring it up. I fed the cat before bed last night and while doing so I heard a rustle from the bags of cat and dog food behind me.

I turned to look at it and saw the bag rustle then out popped the head of a mouse. It was a scene straight from a cartoon or movie, with its head poking out and no doubt little bits of dog food in its tiny paws. Our eyes met, that mouse’s and mine, and we stood staring at each other in silence for a brief moment.

Then it bailed out of the dog food bag at super mousie speeds and vanished.

I threw away the bag of dog food of course. While they’re cute they’re also dirty and I don’t want my dogger to get sick.

Those silly meeses.

What’s Happened To My Halloween?

Halloween used to be an incredible time of the year. Weeks before the holiday itself we would have horror movie after horror movie on TV. Sure some of them got old, but seeing great films like American Werewolf In London brings back fond memories of a very frightened childhood.

Movie theaters, too, always jumped in on the occasion. You could easily expect three good horror flicks to be released. I couldn’t decide which to see first. Read more »

Amusing Photo – Religion & Politics

http://img363.imageshack.us/img363/5033/po0510051cs.gif

I live in Kansas, so the subject of religion and politics is something that’s been striking close to home.  A pal of mine sent me the link to this photo and I thought it amusing enough to share here.

This is being posted from Flock by the way.

A Major Drawback On WordPress.com?

Do wordpress.com blogs not support the <!–nextpage–> tag? I just wrote a 4 or 5 page post and it completely ignored those tags.

Youch, this is bad news.

Mysk Welcomes You

First I would like to thank both Flock and WordPress.com for this blog space.  Though I doubt that they’ll read this I find that it behooves me to say how I appreciate the hosting, the storage space and the effort that’s put into this, as well as the collaboration between Flock and WordPress.com.  I wouldn’t have this account without any of that! ;)

Now, what will be done with mysk.wordpress.com? That is still being decided but here is my plan so far:

  • Use this for my personal posts, instead of using SIM for that
  • Post my short stories to mysk.wordpress.com
  • Possibly move my existing personal content from SIM to here.

SIM, of course, being Shadows In Motion.

This change also provides me with the possible opportunity to shed some of my old domain names.  himysk.com can be swapped for ShadowsInMotion.com, for example, with himysk.com parked on SIM’s address. This would mean moving cat.myskyra.net to cat.shadowsinmotion.com but that’s quite alright; besides, I have a special idea for her:  I plan on installing a wordpress blog for her!

Hm, I wonder if she could get a WordPress.com account?  I would suggest to her getting Flock and trying to obtain an account here but I don’t want her to misinterpret the suggestion.  Not that she would but I prefer to be careful when it comes to friends so dear.

Anyway, I’m rambling.  I suppose that’s a somewhat forgivable offense when it comes to a blog post but I would prefer to stick on topic as much as my bouncing brain can do so.  So I’ll close this with saying that I may not post here much just yet as I decide exactly what I’m going to do.

Or perhaps more to point, convince myself to go about moving quite a bit of content to this blog.  Or alterantively, find a way to .. hm, there’s a thought.  Create a category on SIM and call it “Old Content”, place all existing personal and similar posts into that category, link to it from here, then take off from there, here.

… heh heh, and you may have suspected that I was done rambling. ;)

Oh, one last thing:  I really like this interface.  Kind of wish that I could have it in my other WordPress blog.
