Karate Achievements
They’re small and few, but they’re mine.
Awhile back I joined a Genbu-Kai dojo for awhile. Unfortunately I had to quit because I goofed up my left hip. I could go into detail about that, but I wont take your time up with it.
In the couple of months that I was there, however, I had a pretty good time and passed my first test. I also embarrassed myself profusely.
Here’s my small list of achievements that I made during those classes. They will eventually grow as I do plan on rejoining a dojo as soon as I’m fit enough to do so.
- 9th Kyu. In our dojo that represents the white belt with a single black stripe.
- Memorized the katas kihon kata ichi, pinan nidan and pinan shodan – they’re not so memorized now but I can still complete most of them.
- Began trying to memorize the dojo kun. I got a single line down before I figured out the trick: Memorize it from the bottom up
It’s a tiny list but it was only a couple of months.
Through the winter I’ll be working on improving my physical condition. This summer I hope to find a second opinion about the hip so that I can actually get it fixed and, with any luck, rejoin one of the dojos by mid to late summer.
As long as they don’t mind my absent minded self joining, that is.
