Ahem, unusually mild?

I want to comment on this article about twisters. This is a quick comment, and it’s in response to this:

Dan McCarthy, with the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla., said the number of storms and deaths this season seems high because the past few years have been unusually mild.

Unusually mild!? What kind of weed are these people smoking? What, are they trying to rewrite history now or something? I very much remember comments from last year saying how it was record breaking, and I distinctly remember watching as tornado after tornado touched down non-stop over the course of roughly 24 hours. It was like a blitzkrieg from nature. One or two stayed on the ground for about an hour, it was insane; they’re not supposed to do that.

Did this guy just wake up out of a coma, or what?

This down-play of the weather makes my head esplode.

Mouse Says Hi

So the cold snap happened last night. I remember laying in bed and being awaken by what sounded like rain and/or ice being blown against my window. When I got out of bed this morning I fully expected to see snow, or at least frost, covering everything.

It wasn’t there, but it’s still plenty cold.

Apparently it chased a mouse back inside. Through peripheral vision I saw something very small dart by, and a second later this tiny mouse popped up on my computer desk. It sat at the back clearly sight of me, and me of it. I kind of laughed a little and said “hi little mouse”, and it just sat there looking at me, so I leaned forward and decided to have a conversation with its itty bitty cuteness. I asked it, how’s it going?, and it just sat there for a few more moments before climbing down the USB cord of my sound device.

On one hand I know that they’re unhealthy to have around and I’ll get rid of ‘em if need be. On the other, I look at them as just another type of mamal that’s trying to survive through a very cold night. So with any luck this cold front will be out of here by today… or tomorrow, at least.

I toy with the thought of buying a hamster cage for it. I won’t do that, of course, but it’s a fun thought.
